Armed Robber Captured by Yarmouth and New Bedford Police

Just after 7:00 Friday night, Yarmouth Police were called to 71 Lower Brook Road on reports of a robbery involving a firearm. The caller told police that the suspects fled in a dark-colored car.

Upon arrival, police officers found a person at the home had been robbed of his cell phone, the suspects were identified as three large men and a woman armed with a handgun. Police issued an alert to all neighboring communities to be on the lookout for the suspects.

At around 8:45 PM, the New Bedford Police Department notified YPD that they had located the female suspect and found a 9mm Smith and Wesson handgun in her purse. The woman has an active license to carry in Massachusetts.

30 year old Kathleen Lyons of New Bedford was arrested and taken back to Yarmouth Police headquarters. She is being held on $5,000 cash bail and is set for arraignment in Barnstable District Court on Tuesday, January 16 on charges of felony armed robber, felony assault and battery while armed with a dangerous weapon, and assault and battery.

The investigation is active and ongoing.  Additional information may be released in the future.
