Chatham: Decomposed Human Remains Found Inside Coast Guard Display Boat

CHATHAM, MA (July 31, 2017) The discovery of a decomposed human body in Chatham is under investigation.

Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe and Chatham Chief of Police Mark Pawlina are investigating the discovery of human remains, found inside a United States Coast Guard boat that was on display at Coast Guard Station Chatham.

The discovery was made just before 9:00 PM on Thursday, July 30. Coast Guard personnel notified Chatham police that they had discovered what appeared to be a decomposed body in a closed compartment of the boat.

Preliminary investigation has not revealed any evidence that foul play was involved.

Investigators are now working to make a positive identification of the body.

The matter remains under investigation by the Coast Guard, Chatham Police, State Police, and the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s office.
