CMN: Housing for Young Working Professionals in Hyannis?

Developer Robert Brennan of CapeBuilt Development has a vision of a vibrant, youthful Hyannis, a place for young professionals to live, work and play. He’s got a plan for a townhouse style development along Pleasant Street in Hyannis consisting of one and two bedroom units designed for year round working young professionals.

Brennan and his architectural team met with the Cape Cod Young Professionals on Tuesday. Next week he’ll present the project to the Greater Hyannis Civic Association. Plans will then be presented to the Town of Barnstable for approval.

The project falls within the Pleasant-School Street Historic District, and could face opposition from those who desire to preserve and protect the old sea captain’s homes that line the street.

During his presentation Tuesday, Brennan likened the young professionals of today to the sea captains of yesterday, saying that the young sea captains of the 1800s were the economic engine for the area and created a tight-knit community in the village of Hyannis.

Brennan and his team will present plans to the Greater Hyannis Civic Association on Tuesday, April 18 at 7:00 PM at the Steamship Authority conference room on School Street in Hyannis.
