Going Green! Earth Day Events and More!

Earth Day is nearly upon us (it’s this Sunday, April 22nd), and there’s never been a better time to get involved in the environmental movement. According to the Earth Day Network, more than 1 billion people participate in Earth Day activities every year! This year’s theme is “End Plastic Pollution,” and there are so many ways to get involved locally. Here are some ideas:

Straws at the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater

April 21, 1 pm – 2:30 pm

See an award-winning, family-friendly short film about the problems caused by single-use plastic. Presented by Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary and the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater.


Canal Clean-up

April 21, 10 am – 2 pm

Ameri-Corps Cape Cod and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have joined forces for an Earth Day Celebration. Help clean up the Cape Cod canal, and participate in educational activities. Food will be provided to volunteers.


Skip the Straw

Earth Day or any day!

Join the “Skip the Straw” movement by avoiding single-use plastic straws. Watch our episode of Profile highlighting this initiative by CARE for the Cape & Islands:


Earth Day Walk: Hatches Harbor with Views of Race Point Light

April 22, 10 am – 12 pm

Learn about salt marsh restoration, climate change impacts, and do some clean-up along a picturesque route to Race Point Light.”


Earth Day at Habitat Education Center & Wildlife Sanctuary

April 22, 10:00 am – 5 pm

Volunteer to help beautify the gardens and trails, and explore the sanctuary.


Arbor Day Seedling Giveaway at Harwich Town Hall

April 27, 8:30 am – 12:00 pm

The Harwich Conservation Department will be giving out tree, shrub, and flower seedlings.


Tour de Trash at the Harwich Community Center

April 28, 9:30 am – 11:30 am

Help clean up Harwich, and get a free lunch!


Dennis Conservation Celebration

April 28, 9:30 am

Participate in a trash pick-up, lunch and celebration, a puppet show with AmeriCorps, and a nature walk in Dennis.


Cotuit Spring Clean-Up Day

May 12, 10 am – 12:00 pm

Join the Cotuit-Santuit Civic Association in cleaning up various areas of the village.


Harwich Herring Count Program


Volunteer with the Harwich Conservation Trust at the Herring River.
