If your 2018 goal is to improve your skills behind the camera, you’ve got some work to do!

1.) Practice Makes Perfect. Use your gear everyday.  Remember that the best camera is the one in your hand! Bring your camera everywhere you go and shoot anything you can.  Review your footage and get feedback from other photographers on your work.

2.) Come Up With a Photography Project.  Goal setting is important! Setting a goal and parameters to work within is a great way to sharpen your skills.  By starting a photography project, you are forced to use your gear and learn it to the best of your ability.  One fun project is the 365 photo project, which consists of taking one photo a day for a year.

Starting a project with a specific theme or color scheme will give you more focus as a photographer when it comes to shot selection.

3.) Follow Photographers You Admire. By following your favorite photographers or influencers, you can learn a lot! Check their websites, blogs, and social media accounts to learn the stories and techniques behind their work.

4.) Spend Money on a Photography Trip. We know, you want to spend your money on new gear. But, wouldn’t you rather go somewhere to brush up your skills and capture great photos? If you’re feeling motivated to practice your camera skills, try somewhere new.
