33rd annual New England/Boston Emmy Awards GILLETTE STADIUM, FOXBOROUGH, MA, May 22, 2010 — Jul3ia Astatkie, 28, a native Cape Codder and video producer, took home yet another Emmy Award for the Cape Cod Community Media Center with her latest video “OMG LOL”.Astatkie, Program and Training Coordinator at the Media Center, gained all of her video production experience in public access facilities and has been producing media since the age of twelve.
She competed in the category of “Outstanding Graphic Arts Program” against big names such as WBZ and other large networks throughout New England.Last year, Astatkie competed against a production from WGBH and won the Emmy for “Outstanding Advanced Media Animation/Motion Graphic Design” for her video “Reality TV”
This year’s video, also a music video parody, focused on society’s growing dependency on the internet and portable devices. Astatkie did everything from writing, arranging and recording the song itself to shooting and post-producing the animation for the video. Unlike “Reality TV,” where she also played all of the characters herself, “OMG LOL” featured a large cast of volunteer actors, including her parents, grandparents, friends and co-workers. Astatkie’s videos combine social commentary with an example of what can be achieved technically with basic production equipment (all equipment used in both videos can be found in most public access facilities). She strongly believes that a creative mindset, ambition, and a good premise are far more valuable than a big budget, and has proven so once again. The winning video can be seen here:
