Cape Cod Community College will welcome back to campus, 1984 Alumnus Tim Kelley, well known Meteorologist for the New England Cable News Network – NECN, as it is Commencement Speaker for the 2018 ceremonies, May 24th at 4 p.m. at the Cape Cod Melody Tent in Hyannis, MA.

“I’m extremely pleased to have Tim accept our request to speak to this year’s graduates.  He’s in the midst of a great career, launched here at Cape Cod Community College, and I’m sure his story and perspective on the community college experience will be very compelling to our graduates, families, and friends,” stated John Cox, President of Cape Cod Community College.

A Cape Cod native, Kelley grew up in a family of hard working fishermen and builders. He attended the same Elementary school, Ezra H. Baker, as his Dad, and graduated from Cape Cod Technical High School with a certificate in HVAC. Then at Cape Cod Community College he focused on Math, Science, and Communication, earning an Associate of Science Degree in 1984.

Although Kelley has been studying weather since he was a child, his formal training in meteorology earned him a Bachelor of Science Degree in Meteorology from Lyndon State College in Vermont, class of 1987.

Kelley has been a meteorologist with NECN since the station’s launch, as New England Cable News, in 1992.

His decades of experience and strong grasp of modern meteorological tools have translated over the years into the delivery of consistently friendly and accurate TV weather forecasts.

He began his career at WMUR-TV in New Hampshire, then spent three years as a meteorologist and environmental reporter at WLNE-TV in Providence, Rhode Island. Since his debut on NECN March 2, 1992, he has been vigilant about tracking weather in his journal. He has logged the weather every single day that NECN has been on air, passing 9,500 entries in spring of 2018. He also accumulated thousands of weather photographs and videos.

He says that his Dad taught him a work ethic and how to read a barometer, and his Mom taught him how to smile and be polite.

Surfing, Skiing, and Gardening are his favorite hobbies.
