The anti-violence movement One Billion Rising has an event planned this Valentine’s Day at the Yarmouth Senior Center. The event, which is to be held from 2-5:30, is meant to bring awareness to the ongoing crisis targeting disempowered women, specifically in light of the #MeToo scandals. Though the One Billion Risingmovement started back in 2012 by writer and activist Eve Ensler, this will be the fourth year that it will come to the Cape.

The event planned will feature a panel discussion hosted by the following: Barbara Burgo from the Barnstable County Human Rights Commission, Sarah Colvin from the Cape Cod Community Media Center, Penny Duby from Cape Cod and Islands Commission for the Status of Women, and several others. This will then be followed up by “Artistic Expression in Painting”, which will be conducted by art therapist Marianne May O’Neill. Such paintings will be shown at an exhibit at a later date. Other organizations will attend the event, which include the Independence House, Cape Cod Elder Abuse Coalition, Elder Services, Hoarding Task Force, Suicide Prevention and Visiting Nurses of Cape Cod. The program will also conclude with an illumination ceremony, with a moment of silence to follow shortly afterwards. Please do RSVP.
