BARNSTABLE, MA (July 31, 2017) — The major electric supplier to Cape Cod, Eversource Energy, is asking to raise its rates.

The first rate increase request was filed with the State Department of Public Utilities in January of 2017, and on June 1st, the company filed a revised petition request.

According to Eversource’s filing with the Department of Public Utilities, the company is “seeking approval of increases in base distribution rates for electric services…as well as other proposals. NSTAR Electric proposed to increase its rates to generate $60.2 million in additional revenues, an approximate 7.0 percent increase over current total operating revenues.” (Click here to read the filing.)

Eversource’s plan calls for a two-phase approach to rate changes, which will affect specific types of customers in different ways. Here’s how the proposed rate changes will affect you.

You have a chance to learn more and to weigh in on these proposed changes. The Department of Public Utilities is holding a public forum Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Cape Cod Community College. The forum begins at 7pm in the Tilden Arts Center. Anyone interested in commenting on the plan may appear at this public hearing, or submit written comments. Written comments are being accepted through August 31, 2017
