It’s the oldest continually operating summer theater in the United States, and it just received the largest single personal gift in its history.

Doreen Bilezekian of Osterville has established a $100,000 matching donation to support the forward momentum of The Cape Playhouse.

Under the terms of the challenge, The Cape Playhouse must raise $100,000 in new donations in 2018 in order to receive Mrs. Bilezekian’s gift.

Mrs. Bilezikian and her late husband, Charles, were founders of the Christmas Tree Shops and have long been major philanthropists to a variety of causes on Cape Cod. “The Playhouse has always been an anchor for the cultural life of Cape Cod and an important destination for visitors and residents,” she said. “On a personal level, The Playhouse has been a source of entertainment and joy for our family for many years. I am pleased to lend this support to The Playhouse, and I invite other theatre lovers to join me in this effort.”
