WEST BARNSTABLE, MA (October 11, 2017) — Advanced ticket sales and reservations are now available for the New England premiere of the cult hit, “Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind (30 Plays in 60 Minutes)” by Greg Allan, opening in the Tilden Arts Center Studio Theatre at Cape Cod Community College on Thursday, October 26th, 2017.

Members of the ensemble of “Too Much Light,” pictured (L to R) in the back row are BJ Kilroy, Jacob Welsh, Elizabeth Woods, Symon Vanderschmidt and in the front row (R to L) Raven Clarke, Shauna Joseph, AJ Gates and Katelyn Moody.

Having opened in 1988, and holding the record for the longest-running show in Chicago history, “Too Much Light,” is an ensemble theatre experience presenting “30 Plays in 60 Minutes.” Each play is performed in random order, as determined by the audience, with an on-stage timer keeping everyone honest.

The production is co-directed by Vana Trudeau, Tilden Arts Center Coordinator, and guest artist Christine Mascott. Mascott, who attended “Too Much Light” several times in New York City, brings an insider’s perspective to what is described as “unashamedly live and democratic theater” (Chicago Reader).

“From the arbitrarily generated ticket prices,” which are determined in part by chance, says Mascott, “to the audience’s spontaneous choice of the plays performed, and the “wildcard” of audience participation, Too Much Light can best be described as scripted improvisation.” Trudeau agrees, “the neo-futurist style of this evening of theatre is dynamic, fresh, and totally unpretentious. As much as the audience may not know what’s coming next, in certain ways neither do the performers, and that in itself creates drama, comedy and intrigue!”

The cast is an ensemble featuring students of the Performing Arts program at Cape Cod Community College and community actors from across the region. Uniquely, the cast does not assume “characters” for the piece, but rather play themselves in each evening’s selection of 30 plays ranging from comic to tragic, political to personal, and abstract to absurd.

“Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind (30 Plays in 60 Minutes)” opens on October 26 and continues the Oct. 27-28and Nov. 2-4 at 7:30 pm and Oct. 29 and Nov. 5 at 2:00 and 5:00 pm. Reservations and advanced ticket sales are available or by calling the Tilden Arts Center Box Office at 508.375.4044.
