Grandmothers Against Gun Violence has teamed up with the Yarmouth Police Department and the National Shooting Sports Association’s Project Child Safe to offer free locks to gun owners to help save lives from accidental death or injury from unsecured firearms.

Free gun locks will be available today from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at Yarmouth Police Headquarters on Brad Erickson Drive.

Yarmouth Police recently investigated the tragic accidental shooting of a 3 year old’s hand. The child had found an unsecured gun at home. This free gun lock program is designed to help remind people of responsible gun ownership and help prevent another tragedy.

What Can You Do to Prevent Accidental Shootings?

  1. Make sure the gun is not loaded
  2. Use a gun lock on each gun and store in a locked cabinet
  3. Lock Ammunition in a place separate from the gun.
  4. Unless the weapon is in your direct possession, it needs to be locked up or secure.

Please join the Yarmouth Police Department any time between 3 and 6 pm today and enjoy free cider and snacks as well as the free gun locks. You may also join in on a raffle for two free gun storage boxes, worth $400 each, thanks to The Powderhorn and Cape Gun Works.
