Our Mission Statement: The Cape Media Center mission is to build community through media.
Learning Objectives: The intern will gain professional, hands-on experience in the field of media production while simultaneously building a portfolio. They will build an understanding of public access media and the essentials of running a successful non profit organization.
Internship Job Description: The Media Center offers summer internships for college students and young adults who are interested in a career in communications, media, film, and television production. Media Center interns gain hands-on production experience in a professional environment, and have gone on to pursue careers in film, communications, journalism, and television production. Internships are unpaid but can be taken as course credit. Our schedule is flexible and part-time.
Activities you can expect to experience as a Media Center intern:
Brainstorming with other interns as a production team to produce an original program or series
Assisting Media Center staff in recording studio television programs
Assisting Media Center staff with video field productions
Conducting interviews with local community leaders
Assisting with youth camps
Skills you can expect to gain as a Media Center intern:
Producing a program in a professional television studio
Using cameras, microphones, and lighting in video productions
Editing skills through the use of Adobe Premiere Pro
Interviewing, hosting, and storytelling skills
Requirements:
An interest in film, media, television, podcasting or journalism
Basic knowledge of video production and editing
The ability to work well as part of a team
Tasks may include the following:
Pre-Production
Training on studio and field equipment
Logging and editing raw footage
Creating a shot sheet for future videos and storyboarding
Production
Assisting on various in-studio and field productions
Creating original promotional materials for the media center
Podcasting
Editing
Editing the final production in Adobe Premiere Pro
Additional responsibilities
Field assignments – determining preproduction with the intern manager to successfully film in the field
Marketing the Media Center – be proficient in articulating what the media center provides to the community
